God perpetually distances Himself from the proud and draws near to and empowers the humble. Picture it in your mind: Imagine the God of the universe pulling back or drawing near based on the posture of one’s heart. He is ever-present—omnipresent—but His supernatural empowering presence falls on those who fear Him. Every day, countless Christians grieve the Spirit or walk by the Spirit, both of which create ripples of destruction or redemption, respectively, on the earth. That’s why Scripture implores us to guard our hearts with all diligence, for out of our heart spring the issues of life.

Proverbs 4:23 NLT ~ Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.
