God is the One who determines your battle strategy. You receive your marching orders from Him. There will be times when everyone else is running, and He’ll charge you to rest. There will be times when your emotions compel you to run to the battle line, and your Father tells you to tuck yourself under His wing so He can fight for you. There will be other times when everything in you wants to hide, and He’ll charge you to stand and fight. Since that’s true, you can know that the enemy will always try to bait you to do the opposite of what God knows is best for you. We’ll be tempted toward self-pity, discouragement, entitlement, disillusionment, jealousy, and even laziness. The sooner the enemy can move us into such mindsets, the sooner he can snatch the treasures God has appointed for us in these valleys. Our enemy isn’t just interested in defeating us. He intends to steal that which God has promised us. Pause here and ponder the verse below. 

We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love. Romans 5:3–5 NLT
