Read John’s words to his fellow believers: 

Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you. For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world. And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever. ~ 1 John 2:15–17 NLT

The problem with the wandering path is that it’s heavily populated. The path of obedience is often a lonely one. When one wanders, others follow. When enough professing Christ-followers take the worldly way instead of the godly way, the Spirit is grieved, the enemy rejoices, and the world receives a mixed message about the power of the resurrection. Moreover, when citizens of the kingdom abdicate their God-given sphere of influence, it creates a vacuum for the enemy’s influence to fill, at a high cost to the kingdom and the world. Our calling matters that much.
