The Uncommon Woman: Making an Ordinary Life Extraordinary

What does it mean to be un-common? The uncommon woman is willing to walk away from petty conversations because she has better things to do with her time. She is willing to forgive those who offend her because she cherishes her oneness with God. She stands strong against the lies of the enemy and yet she humbly bows before her Lord. She perseveres in the face of battle, she cares about the hurting, and she believes God's promises are true for her. Walk with Susie Larson as she helps you to:

What people are saying about The Uncommon Woman ~

Great bible study resource!

I would recommend this book to any woman of all ages! Susie does a wonderful job of reflecting the Lord's beautiful love for us and reminds us of who he created us to be as women of his. She relates so well with each of her readers and she uses her own life examples to show how God's word gives direction and power to the common struggles women face everyday. I felt so overwhelmed by the Lord's love and renewed as I read "The Uncommon Woman." I plan to use it to lead a high school girls bible study this fall and think it will be perfect. SHe does a great job of incorporating questions and scripture at the end of each chapter. You will love this book!

All Christian Women need to read this book...

This book is not for wimpy christians. It is all about the mature, meat eating walk! I was challenged, and prodded. The iron was clanging and I am off to doing good works; (i.e iron sharpening iron, and spurring each other on to good works!)

If you listen while you are reading you won't put this book down without great insight and inspiration to keep going on the narrow road!

I read this book a second time

Susie has so much good information for today's women seeking higher ground. I have never re-read a book, until Uncommon Woman. Powerful messages by an amazing author.

PHENOMENAL!!

This book is absolutely life changing (if you let it). It's completely scripture based and challenges women to handle their lives, circumstances and situations in an uncommon way - pretty much opposite of how the world would handle them. The chapters are short with personal stories followed by meat and potatoes teaching and ends with 6 or 7 reflective/prayerful questions that are HARD. Ouch. Even though the chapters are short, they are very introspective and meaty so it's not a quick read by any means. Great stuff for women who want to grow and examine their walk with the Lord more closely.

Best woman's book in long time

I heard Susie Larson speak and picked up several of her books...had NO IDEA how impacting these books would be...although I certainly had a good idea from hearing her speak....EXCELLENT insight to a deeper walk with God. Highly recommend her books, especially The Uncommon Woman

Life changing book

Susie's book has completely changed my life with the Lord. She is challenging and encouraging and very practical. I will be giving her book to friends I have who want to have a thriving relationship with God. As a woman, I find it hard to keep my mouth shut or truly believe where my identity and acceptance lies, but after going through the book and diving into God's Word I am learning how to keep fully hidden in my God. The Lord loves us more than we know and when I started to let Him be my source of identity and praise and acceptance I started to see my whole attitude change towards others and even myself. This book is deep and only those who are ready to have an amazing, alive relationship with God should take on the task of letting the Lord change their hearts. This book is a great way to get started down that amazing journey.

Great Read

I met Susie Larson once again at the Set Apart conference this past spring... and I loved her message on The Uncommon Women. I bought Susie's book that day and I'm enjoying it immensely. Susie is so gifted with her writing... she has such a beautiful way of expressing yourself and gives abundant joy to her readers. I am certain God smiles BIG for Susie and loves HER in a GOD SIZE WAY (as Susie says). Thanks Susie for sharing God's love through your writing for all of us. And thank you for your continued dedication, love and spirit.

Enlightening

This is a book you'll want to read again and again. I have acquired so many gems from it's pages and it has revealed so many truths that I am trying to apply to my life. I have shared many excerpts with friends and family and it continues to minister to me as well. This is a good read as well as a great purchase as a gift for others.

I keep replacing my copy

This book is wonderful. I have purchased it 3 times. Everytime I buy it, I inevitably give it away to another women who can benefit from Suzies insight, lessons, and her way of connecting with women. Many of my friends have been challenged with the same issues as Suzie and her family. It makes all of us realize how ordinary, yet extraordinary we were all created. I think I will just start buying two copies at a time. Thank You God for how you have used Suzie!

I'm not offended; that would be common!

Susie Larson says her book, The Uncommon Woman: Making an Ordinary Life Extraordinary, is the "book of her heart." She wrote it to help other Christian women reject behavior that is beneath them and reach up to live a life that, apart from Christ, is beyond them.

If you buy the book and only read Chapter Five, you will have gotten your money's worth! It centers around our usual reaction to the conflicts that arise between women, contrasted against what our response could and should be. When we are divided by hurt feelings, annoyance, or even malicious talk and gossip, the damage that is done goes beyond what we could ever imagine. And our effectiveness as Christian women is diminished.

Susie speaks tenderly, yet does not mince words. She honestly communicates to her readers from experience, both from the perspective of the catty woman, as well as she who has been scratched. She points out that when a woman dislikes another woman, she can tend to define that other woman by her faults. That might be common knowledge, but do we see that it's a wrong behavior? And what's more, do we see a deeper truth behind that tendency? Read this and see if it isn't tremendously insightful:

"When our hearts are muddied by self-righteousness and pettiness against someone, we don't *get* to see what God is doing in and through them. Our eyes are blinded to the blessings in them because we've lost the right to see into their lives. God won't let us in on the precious treasure of their strengths because, right now, we're mishandling their weaknesses."

Instead of running away from a difficult woman, Susie suggests that we go toward her; "receive her." When we do, she writes, "We get to be on the receiving end of all the treasure within her."

She continues,

"When we stand shoulder to shoulder with our arms linked, our enemy will have a hard time knowing where I end and you begin. Then, suddenly, my victory becomes your victory. My fruit becomes your fruit. And when we stand together, Christ commands a blessing."

It was my great delight that Susie Larson was the speaker at the retreat I attended in October of 2008. During one talk, she called a woman up on the platform with her, took the woman by the arm, and got right up next to her as a visual aid to the above lesson. She added that our enemy knows that, "One can put a thousand to flight, but two can put ten thousand to flight," Deut. 32:30.

Why is it that while Satan knows God's math and its power, I can be so ignorant of his schemes? Keeping Christians at odds with one another prevents us from doing a lot of damage to his realm; but I want to do much damage! I will never forget Susie's visual aid at the retreat, and I intend to purposefully put the lessons I learned from her into continual practice in all my relationships.

Declarations and Prayers

I received this book for our bible study and the words just jumped off the pages at me. My daughter is going through the fire right now with a custody battle/trial and I know that God is walking her through it ... she will not even smell of smoke when this is over. I am also dealing with a critical spirit from my 90-year-old father and praying for his salvation. Whenever I feel an attack, I pick up Susie's book and read the declarations and prayers out loud (in my car, at work ... anywhere) and I'm calm. I am a new Christian and memorizing scripture and her Statement of Faith to arm myself. I love how she writes about forgiving her accusers, asking God to bless them ... I am walking through that for my daughter. I just gave her the book last night and I know it will uplift and transform her character and love for God.

Uncommonly Good

In this book author Susie Larson encourages women to kick their relationship with Christ up a notch by marching to a different beat than what the world is marching to. Larson encourages women to "take the high road" and be willing to be called out by God to live a life that is "uncommon". In this book she not only talks the talk, but gives the reader the needed tools to know God more intimately and to follow Him more closely.

This is a great book for a Book Club or Bible Study as Larson places thought provoking questions at the end of each chapter and she backs up her teaching with Scripture.

An Uncommon Book

Susie's book is gently honest. She pushes women to rise above "ordinariness" and to make uncommon choices. Her chapter titled "choose prayer over pettiness" was particularly insightful and meaningful to me. It has changed the way I relate to women, but even more than that, it's changed my heart towards them. I'm glad I've read this book and highly recommend it!

Great Book

I found this book to be very helpful. It is easy to read and full of practical steps for spiritual growth. Susie has a tremendous gift for meeting readers where they are and encouraging them to step out do to whatever God has called them to do. After reading this book I am sure God will equip me to do whatever he calls me to do, even I think it is beyond by capabilities.

Raise the bar!

This book raises the bar for anyone who wants to walk worthy of the Lord. It gently urges us up on that high road of holiness and the fear of God. Without denying the reality of trouble and difficult circumstances, Susie calls us to the Word of God and His promises, to hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised if faithful. She is so open to share her own struggles and how she dealt with them in the Spirit. I just loved this book. It challenged me, encouraged me and inspired me.

Challenging, deep, and thoughtful

I read a lot of books and few make it to my shelf. This will remain as a resource to read when I desire to be reminded of the challenge to live an uncommon life. It's deep, but personal. It's thought-provoking, but gentle. It's a call to live a life of purpose no matter what our role. This is a book that I believe would benefit women of all ages, but I'd love to place one of these in the hands of every twenty something friend I know.

Not mere information, but transformation!!

Susie has a way of giving us much more than information in her books. She gives us what we need for transformation. You come away from reading this book knowing you can be different, not just that you should. Her willingness to share her struggles, makes it easy for us to look at ours and do anything needed to change. Somehow she makes us believe that Christ like behavior is doable for us! She convinces us that pursuing more of Jesus is not just what I should do but way worth it! This quote from the book is such a good example of this. "Uncommon woman, when you keep Jesus on the throne of your life every-single-day, and when you determine to be done with attitudes and activities that are beneath you, you will be positioned to march into your next place of promise."
My next place of promise? I am on my way! Thanks for your help Susie!

Absolutely Recommended

This book is awesome and would be a great addition to your library or as a gift to others!! Susie encourages women to 'take it to the next level' in their relationship and walk with Christ and others. My favorite concept is Consider what every woman you know would do in the situation you find yourself in - then raise your standard. As someone whose grown tired of the same old excuses for low, same old - same old living, this book challenged me to 'come up higher' in my attitude, my responses, my standards. Not only does Susie challenge you to step up higher - she gives you the tools you need to do so - to put the rubber on the road - and start walking higher. At the end of each chapter, Susie places thought provoking questions with Biblical scriptures. This book would be awesome for group study! Highly recommended!!

You will feel an overwhelming sense of love from the Lord Jesus Christ.
